"EVTA provides a valuable bridge between educational opportunity and workforce development. Through training, mentorship, and meaningful work experiences, the organization helps young people develop the skills, confidence, and professional experience needed to establish careers working in schools as literacy and math tutors. This model not only benefits the young people who participate in the program, but also strengthens the capacity of our schools to provide students with the individualized support they need to succeed."
(Middle School Math Teacher & Math Specialist)
"Equally important is the organization’s investment in the young people providing this support. By offering training, mentorship, and opportunities to work directly with students and school staff, EVTA creates a pathway for young people to explore careers in education while developing practical skills such as communication, collaboration, leadership, problem-solving, and relationship building. These experiences can help cultivate a future workforce of individuals who understand and are invested in the success of our local schools and communities. We value partnerships that recognize that improving student achievement requires both supporting students today and investing in the people who will serve our schools in the future." DRAFT AD FOR RETIRED PROFESSIONALS AS TUTORS:
Embudo Valley Tutoring Association seeks retired professionals to tutor high need
elementary students in the Espanola School District:
EVTA is a 501 C (3) non profit that provides free tutoring services to high need students
in a few schools in the Espanola Independent School District during the school day
and/or after school in Reading/Language and Math. We are seeking committed,
retired professionals who are interested in supporting children who need one-on-one
support. All positions are part time.
How assignments are made:
EVTA coordinates between the school’s schedule and needs and the prospective tutor’s
availability. Each EVTA student must receive a minimum of two full sessions (45 min – 1 hour)
per week in order to be effective. So the tutor would, ideally, serve at least two hours two
days a week. The focus of the tutoring sessions is on building the student’s skills so they can
perform at grade level. Many of them are a year or two behind.
Applicants with education or tutoring experience are encouraged to apply. Those with no experience working with children will be provided training by EVTA. All that is required is that the tutor have a good rapport, and feel comfortable working with children up to 6th grade. EVTA does ask that the tutors make at least a
One year commitment.
The wage is approximately $20 per hour. (EVTA must raise all monies from private foundations.)
A lengthy background check by the school district is required. So the sooner you apply, the better.
